First remove the existing cabinets
then remove the existing tiles to make the room for the border
Install cabinets
Install border tiles

not sure what your existing tile is like but, it won't be that much harder to replace it all

When you put in a border tile it will look better when its not against the wall but would have the same tile on both sides of the border, border tile will barely even show if its under the cabinets, you may have a hard time matching the existing tile to accomplish this

You're doing a lot with new cabinets, countertops

Go all the way and put in great new tile, preferably with different sizes in an interesting pattern

Put the kitchen units in first, then you will know what space you have left, it is easier to lay the tiles to the edge of the units!

Tile work is usually the last thing you would do, unless you are tiling the whole room for a water proof effect, like a professional kitchen that can be cleaned easier.

I dont know what the pros would do, but I would put the cabinets in first, then you would know exactly what size to cut your tiles. Plus, you may keep from chipping or breaking some of them.
